Rex Hospital Open Releases 2012 Activities Line-up

Tournament Celebrates Eighth Year as part of PGA TOUR's Nationwide Tour

Raleigh, N.C. - Rex Healthcare today announced the schedule for the 2012 Rex Hospital Open, May 31 through June 3, at TPC Wakefield Plantation in north Raleigh. This year tournament organizers continue to focus on the fan experience with expanded public seating on the 18th hole's "Hurricanes Bench" and new food vendors and locations that will be available championship week at TPC Wakefield.

"We continue to receive enthusiastic support from the our community which has allowed us to raise more than $6 million in the last two decades to benefit a variety of support programs and services at Rex Hospital," said Carson Gilbert, tournament director of the Rex Hospital Open. "We want fans to know they are important to us, and the events we've organized throughout the week give the whole family an opportunity to come out to the course and be part of this great event."

Schedule of Events:
Sunday, May 27 - Rex Hospital Open Junior Invitational
Tuesday, May 29 - Professional Practice Round and First Tee of the Triangle Kids' Clinic (ages 8-18)
Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1 - Rex Hospital Open Nationwide Tour first and second rounds
Saturday, June 2 - Rex Hospital Open Nationwide Tour third round and Family Fun Day with free snow cones, activities and more for kids of all ages
Sunday, June 3 - Rex Hospital Open Nationwide Tour fourth round and Military Appreciation Day, featuring a drop by the US Army Golden Knights. All military admitted free with proper ID. First 500 receive a free hat

As part of the Nationwide Tour, the Rex Hospital Open offers players the opportunity to showcase their talents and earn a spot on the coveted PGA TOUR. Yesterday, PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem announced significant changes to the structure of the qualifying system for the PGA TOUR, dramatically elevating the importance of the Nationwide Tour by establishing it as the primary pathway to the PGA TOUR. With these changes, all 50 PGA TOUR membership cards will now be awarded through the Nationwide Tour next season.

The 2012 Rex Hospital Open will again work with regional nonprofit organizations to give back to the community through the Charity Ticket Program. Visit the tournament website to see participating nonprofit organizations.
