craft and fabric donations
Volunteers at Rex do many things in addition to physically working hours at Rex Hospital. There are groups of volunteers who doante their time to craft items and donate craft supplies to assist other artisans. Lois Copeland, master seamstress and Rex volunteer, is the leader of this quiet corp. Copeland organizes the donation and purchase of fabrics, assists in sewing and coordinates the distribution of items throughout the hospital. Last year nearly 13,000 items were hand made for Rex patients. |
Dedicated volunteers work either independently or in a group to sew wonderful items including:
- Knitted and crocheted caps for newborns
- Special bags and pillows for patients
- Stuffed pillows for pediatric patients
- Incubator blankets
- Lap robes
- Drain bags
- Angel bags for holding mementos
If you are interested in supporting this crafty mission, here's how you may help. Donations of yarn and fabric are kindly accepted, however it is requested that materials be in at least yard lengths. If you would like to become a part of this talented group of sewers, or have any other questions, please call the Rex volunteer office at (919) 784-3165.
Also, donationans of general magazines are kindly accepted for our waiting rooms. Magazines that are less than six months old are most desirable. Donations may be dropped off to the front desk at Rex Hospital or to the volunteer office.
