Rex Healthcare Recertified as Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence
American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Renews Accreditation for Rex’s Program
RALEIGH, N.C. – Rex Healthcare has been recertified as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the independent, nonprofit American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
ASMBS accreditation is awarded to surgical centers that demonstrate commitment to providing quality improvement and safety for bariatric surgery patients. ASMBS reviews each aspect of the program’s surgeons and facilities to ensure it meets the highest standards of effectiveness and care.
“Rex is proud to be recognized again as one the nation’s top hospitals for bariatric surgery,” said Jayne Byrd, vice president of Surgical Services for Rex Healthcare. “This recertification highlights Rex’s consistency in providing top-notch care to area bariatric surgery patients and that’s a reflection of the passion and skill that our whole bariatric team brings to work each day.”
Among the criteria for ASMBS accreditation is a demonstrated focus on providing multidisciplinary, comprehensive and patient-centered care. Rex’s bariatric program provides support groups for patients, access to dietitians, and joint programs with the Rex Wellness Centers.
Last year, doctors performed more than 1,100 weight loss surgeries at Rex, one of the largest bariatric programs in the Southeast. Seven surgeons make up the bariatric program at the hospital, which was first certified by ASMBS in 2010.
