Therapeutic Phlebotomy Donations

Therapeutic phlebotomy procedures are physician prescribed donations for the removal of blood as treatment of a disease. Most commonly, therapeutic phlebotomy is performed on patients with Hereditary Hemochromatosis, Secondary Polycythemia or Porphyria Cutanea Tarda. There is no fee for this procedure when it is performed at the Rex Donor Center. If a donor's diagnosis is Hereditary Hemochromatosis, the blood donated may also be used for transfusion to patients and placed in with the general inventory. For more information call (919) 784-4750 or visit the American Hemochromatosis Society.
