RALEIGH, N.C. - In culmination of national TV-Turnoff Week, Leesville Road Elementary School will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil its new playground on Friday, Apr. 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The new playground, sponsored by Rex Healthcare, will provide students with an updated space to stay active and healthy.
"Rex Healthcare is dedicated to promoting health and wellness in schools," said Lisa Schiller, the vice president of marketing and public relations, community relations and government affairs for Rex Healthcare. "The playground gives students a safe way to get exercise and learn healthy habits during school hours."
The new 2,255-square-foot eco-friendly playground, designed by Miracle Recreation Equipment Company, is made of recycled materials and provides students with ways to improve upper body strength, cardiovascular strength and coordination. It is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant with ground-level activities, a transfer point for wheelchairs and ADA steps.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony called "Come Out and Play!"will include remarks by Leesville Elementary School Principal Cecelia Chapman and Lisa Schiller, a performance by the Tri-force Jump Rope Performance Team, and healthy food options from Schiano's Pizza, Sunset Slush and Chick-fil-A.
Rex Healthcare representatives will also be on hand to distribute health and wellness information to children and families.
The new playground was made possible by contributions from Rex Healthcare and Leesville Families & Friends, along with assistance through the Wake County Public School System Facilities Design & Construction Parent Volunteer Matching Grant.
