RALEIGH, N.C. - Rex Healthcare will host Cancer Survivors Day on June 5 from 2-4 p.m. in the parking lot of Rex Cancer Center. Now in its 22nd year, the event brings Triangle residents together for an afternoon, to celebrate survivorship with one another.
"Cancer affects so many people in our community, taking patients and their loved ones on a difficult journey," said Vickie Byler, director of the Rex Cancer Center. "Rex Healthcare is dedicated to providing the best cancer care possible, but we also recognize the importance of celebrating the strength of those who have faced this challenge."
In North Carolina, it is estimated that nearly four in 10 North Carolinians will develop cancer during their lives. Thanks to earlier detection, improved treatments and supportive care of family and friends, there are now more than 10 million cancer survivors nationwide.
The event is a casual, family-friendly affair, featuring refreshments, live beach music by the Fantastic Shakers and a raffle for Rex Hospital Open tickets and prizes. Proceeds from the Open benefit the construction of the NC Cancer Hospital at Rex. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with each other and visit with Rex physicians, many of whom have greatly impacted the lives of attending survivors and other patients at Rex Cancer Center.
For more information and to register for the event, please call the Rex Cancer Center at (919) 784-3105. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to R.S.V.P. by May 31. Rex Hospital is located at 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607.
