Rex Blood Services Makes Call for Donors
Blood supplies reaching critically low levels
Rex Healthcare is making an official call for blood donations to replenish depleted reserves. To encourage people to donate, Rex Healthcare is holding a drawing for two $100 gas cards in the month of June and July. All who donate blood will qualify.
Summer months mean vacations and time away from home for many Triangle residents. The blood reserves at Rex Healthcare usually see a small decline in donations during the season, but reserves have been hit especially hard this year. Blood reserves are critically low, and there is an urgent need for all blood types.
The basic minimum requirements for donating blood are as follows:
• Must be 17 years of age
• Must weigh 110 pounds or more
• Must not be taking antibiotics for an infection
• Must be in basic good health
Travel to certain countries as well as certain medical conditions and/or medications may prohibit some from making a blood donation. Potential donors who have questions or concerns about eligibility to give blood can call our donor center at (919) 784-4750 for more information, or visit the American Association of Blood Banks.
To schedule an appointment to donate blood, participants should call Rex Blood Services at (919) 784-4750.
The Rex Hospital donation center is open Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are also several upcoming blood drives scheduled throughout the community. Visit rexhealth.com/blood-services for a complete schedule of mobile drives in the area.
The donor center is located in the Blue Ridge Center II building at 2709 Blue Ridge Rd., Suite 150, across the street from Rex Hospital.
