Rex Healthcare Announces Monthlong Cancer Awareness Activities and Community Partnerships in October

RALEIGH, N.C. - In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness month in October and ongoing cancer education efforts, Rex Healthcare proudly announces its participation in a number of events throughout the Triangle that will raise awareness and educate the public about the need for screenings, checkups and exams.

- Hudson Belk Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign - Monthlong initiative
Throughout the month of October, Rex is partnering with Triangle-area Belk stores to promote breast cancer awareness and detection. With a $50 bra purchase, customers will receive a free Liv-kit. Endorsed by Olivia Newton John, the Liv-kit is an examination aid for monthly self breast exams. Participating stores include those in Crabtree Valley Mall, Triangle Town Center, The Streets at Southpoint, Cary Town Centre, Zebulon and Garner.
- Falling for Pink Luncheon sponsored by Rex Healthcare - October 5
The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce will host a luncheon, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5 featuring nationally known motivational speaker/comedian Kelly Swanson.
- Mobile Mammography Unit Unveiling - October 10
On Oct. 10, Rex will unveil its newest mobile mammography unit at the Revlon Charity Golf Tournament at North Ridge Country Club. Rex's mobile mammography units cover a 14 county area and have assisted more than 28,000 women in the last decade.
- Community Breast Health Event - October 22
Rex is partnering with Alliance Medical Ministry to hold its annual Community Breast Health Event on Oct. 22 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. at 101 Donald Ross Drive in Raleigh. The free event will include clinical breast exams for uninsured women ages 18-64, health education, community resources and information about Rex Mobile Mammography services.
- "Rex On Call" - October 24
On Monday Oct. 24, Rex will debut its live call-in show "Rex On Call" on WRAL-TV with a special focus on breast cancer awareness. The show will air at 1 p.m. and will also stream live on www.WRAL.com. Guests on the show include Julia Taber, M.D. and Lola Olajide, M.D.

- "Rex Beats the Odds" Carolina Hurricanes Promotion - Monthlong initiative
Rex is partnering with the Carolina Hurricanes to encourage fans to submit stories about how they or a loved one beat the odds. As part of the "Rex Beats the Odds" contest, one winner will receive a pair of Carolina Hurricanes season tickets. In addition, a text-to-win contest held during every game in October will allow fans to win a team-autographed hockey stick. Rex will also participate in "Hockey Fights Cancer Night" on Oct. 25 benefiting the Rex Healthcare Foundation and other local organizations.
- "Think Pink" at Lafayette Village Shopping Center - Monthlong initiative
During the month of October merchants in the center will sell special "pink" items with proceeds benefiting the Rex Healthcare Foundation for breast cancer research. Other special events include a fashion show and silent auction. The shopping center is located on Honeycutt Road in Raleigh.
- Le Tour de Femme - October 8
On Oct. 8, Rex will support the le Tour de Femme, an annual women-only cycling event benefiting Rex Cancer Center. At the race, Rex is working with le Tour de Femme organizers to provide onsite assistance during the race.
- Rex Healthcare Foundation Gala - October 29
Rex will host its annual Rex Healthcare Foundation Gala on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Greater Raleigh Convention Center. The event will raise funds for the new N.C. Cancer Hospital at Rex. Tickets are available online at rexhealth.com/foundation or by calling 919-784-4424.
