RALEIGH, N.C. - Rex Healthcare announced today it received an inaugural Candidate Experience award from the Talent Board, a nonprofit formed this year to encourage more employers to improve the way job applicants are treated.
Rex is one of only two dozen employers nationwide recognized for the way it recruits, reviews and hires job candidates. Other 2011 winners included Adidas Group, General Mills, Herman Miller, Intuit, PepsiCo, SunTrust Banks and Whirlpool. The award reflects ongoing efforts by Rex's human resources team to provide a positive experience for job candidates, said Jill Radding, Rex's manager of benefits and employment. That includes posting more detailed job descriptions online, improving the screening questions, sending more frequent updates of every applicant's status and more.
"In this challenging economy, we're getting more applications than ever," Radding said. "That's sometimes the first contact a person will have with Rex, especially if they're new to this area. We're constantly tweaking the process of how we interact with applicants to improve their perception of Rex."
Rex expects that 37,000 candidates will submit more than 100,000 applications for jobs across the organization this year. That's more than twice the total of two years ago.
Rex plans to hire about 950 people this year, roughly the same as in 2010.
Rex President David Strong last year encouraged the hospital's human resources team to enhance the experience every candidate has and connect with more people in this community and beyond, Radding said.
"We want to be sure our communication is clear, timely and appropriate with every potential co-worker," she added.
Radding said her team will review the other Talent Board winners' practices to find new measures for Rex to consider adopting.
