Chesson Hadley Wins Rex Hospital Open; Victory Grants Entry to Upcoming Fall PGA Tour

RALEIGH, N.C. – Raleigh native Chesson Hadley, who was born at Rex Hospital nearly 26 years ago, won today's Rex Hospital Open by two strokes, including a birdie on the final hole.

Surrounded by family and friends at TPC Wakefield's 18th hole as he accepted the winner's trophy, Hadley noted that his wife, Amanda, plans to deliver their baby at Rex later this year.

"Everything about this week was perfect," Hadley said. "You couldn't have drawn it up any better. I'm incredibly blessed."

Hadley shot 7-under in the fourth and final round to win the tournament 19-under par. It was the first Web.com Tour victory for Hadley and means that he will move up to play in the PGA Tour this fall.

Danny Lee, representing New Zealand, finished second after shooting par 71 in the final round of play, despite beginning today in the top spot and leading Hadley by 5 strokes.

Sunday capped an eventful week of activities at the Rex Hospital Open. As part of the tournament’s Service Appreciation Day, active and former military, police, fire and EMS personnel were granted free admission.

"Chesson gave his hometown crowd a huge victory, and made this tournament one that we'll always remember," said Carson Gilbert, director of the Rex Hospital Open. "We're thrilled for Chesson and his family, and know he is destined to accomplish great things on the course and in life."

The tournament also featured several events during the week, including Family Day at the Open, three different pro-ams, First Tee of the Triangle’s free youth golf clinic and Hall of Fame golfer Billy Casper’s chairman’s dinner.

As the Triangle’s premier charity golf event, the Rex Hospital Open has raised more than $7 million for patients in need since its inception. Funds from this year’s event will benefit Rex Heart & Vascular services and programs.

The Web.com Tour is the path to the PGA Tour. The top 25 earners on the Web.com Tour money list are automatically granted a PGA Tour card the following season. The Web.com Tour continues June 27-30 in Newburgh, Ind.
