Living with Diabetes
Rex Diabetes Education Center offers a two-part comprehensive outpatient class series to assist those managing diabetes. Educators work with class participants to assess current self-management skills and medications as well as stress and exercise levels. In addition, the emotional support component that comes from this class series is a bonus. Support and positive reinforcement from others can assist those dealing with healthcare challenges like diabetes. Working to meet each person's individual needs is central to this program's success. Rex is here for you!
Prevent Diabetes
Another program offered by Rex Diabetes Education Center is a diabetes prevention class. This class offers people who have not been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes the opportunity to learn more about what can be done once blood glucose levels begin to approach higher than normal levels. In many situations, lifestyle changes may prevent the onset of diabetes. Learn more about what you can do to Prevent Diabetes!
Gestational Diabetes
During this exciting time in a woman's life, a diagnosis of gestational diabetes can be frightening. Gestational diabetes occurs when a pregnant woman who has never had diabetes before develops high blood sugar levels. Registered dietitians and registered nurses with Rex Diabetes Education Center will help mothers-to-be manage diabetes during pregnancy. Determining a woman's individualized caloric needs, teaching monitoring skills, meal planning and other self-management training is most important so that both mom and baby remain healthy throughout pregnancy. Educators are also available to teach moms about insulin initiation.
