Special Campaigns

In addition to supporting clinical excellence, the Rex Healthcare Foundation conducts major campaigns to secure funding for critical needs or priority projects. You may choose to designate your gift to one of the following special campaigns.

 Grateful Patient Campaign

Each and every day, we learn about patients who have received excellent care at Rex. Patients have expressed their gratitude in many ways: kind words, heart-felt thank you notes and even homemade cookies! The best way to truly say thanks is to make a gift to the Rex Healthcare Foundation. With your gift, you can help us continue providing excellent care at Rex!

Special Events

Special fundraising events hosted by the Rex Healthcare Foundation throughout the year generate energy and excitement in the community, including:

 The Rex Hospital Open

The Rex Hospital Open golf tournament at TPC Wakefield Plantation was an official stop on the PGA Web.com Tour that brings the golf stars of tomorrow to Raleigh and raises money to support Rex Healthcare's programs and services. The 2014 Rex Hospital Open was May 19-25, 2014.

The Rex Hospital Open Corporate Challenge

The Rex Hospital Open Corporate Challenge was an 18-hole tournament that placed teams of four players with a club professional and allowed businesses to compete on the green for "bragging rights" while enjoying a day away from the office. It is an annual event and corporate sponsorships are also available.

Keeping Mobile Mammography Rolling

Rex Mobile Mammography Unit

Since hitting the road in 2001, Rex Healthcare's Mobile Mammography Unit has provided screening to more than 22,000 women. Traveling to local businesses, churches, schools and civic groups, the unit offers women state-of-the-art digital technology for early cancer detection.

Regular mammography screenings can reduce a woman's chance of dying from breast cancer by as much as 30 percent. Yet some women go without life-saving screenings due to lack of time, transportation, resources, scheduling flexibility or access to healthcare.

That's where the Rex Mobile Mammography Unit comes in. Thanks to community partners like Revlon, our mammography unit sponsor, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, our screening/diagnostic testing sponsor, women in North Carolina can have these life-saving mammograms.

Why Mobile?

Those who need life-saving mammograms most - low income, underserved and uninsured women - can benefit from Rex Healthcare's Mobile Mammography Unit.

We know that mammography is extremely valuable in the early detection of breast cancer because it can identify abnormalities at an early stage before physical symptoms develop, resulting in a higher cure rate. However, we also know that there are disparities in breast cancer prevention and treatment.

Going mobile allows the unit to reach out to women in need most in Chatham, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Nash, Vance and Wake counties of North Carolina.

Advanced Technology

The Rex Mobile Mammography Unit utilizes the advanced Hologic digital mammography system, one of the most powerful diagnostic tools for the early detection of breast cancer available. This solution offers a number of benefits, many of which are especially advantageous for remote use:

  • Faster image acquisition and image enhancement
  • Easier image storage and retrieval
  • Easier transmittal of images for remote consultation
  • Improved images, especially in dense breast tissue, which allow for more accurate readings

Revlon's Commitment

Revlon has an outstanding commitment to women's beauty, both inside and out. Since 1990, this leading cosmetic company has helped to raise more than $65 million in support of medical research programs, physician training, clinical care and education and awareness initiatives.

Revlon has supported Rex Mobile Mammography Unit's mission since its inception and has provided nearly $700,000 in net proceeds from charity golf events since 2005. With this generous support from Revlon, Rex Healthcare provides the most advanced digital technology on the Mobile Mammography Unit.

Rex and Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Namesake of Race for the Cure®, Susan G. Komen fought breast cancer with her heart, body and soul. Throughout her diagnosis, treatment and endless days in the hospital, she distracted herself by brainstorming ways to make life better for other women battling breast cancer. Moved by Susan's compassion for others, her sister Nancy G. Brinker promised to do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.

That promise is now Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and its signature Race for the Cure® walk event has become the world's largest source of non-profit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.

Rex Healthcare has received grants of nearly $200,000 from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure - NC Triangle Affiliate. Since 2006, more than 1,000 women have directly benefited from these funds. Additionally, these grants have supported screening/diagnostic mammography procedures and/or breast ultrasounds on the Mobile Mammography Unit and in the Rex Breast Care Center.
