Going Home

Couple preparing to go home with newborn baby

How exciting, it's time to go home! You will receive hospital discharge instructions from your physician and your baby's pediatrician. Check for any written prescriptions and review them with your nurse. Your identification bracelet will be matched with your baby's and one will be removed for the infant's chart.

Be sure that before you leave Rex, all of your personal items as well as the important information your doctor, nurse and pediatrician have provided are packed and ready to travel home, too.

To leave the hospital, North Carolina state law requires that all infants be fastened in a car seat. Make sure you have read the instructions for car seat installation carefully. View frequently asked questions about car seat safety. The best place for your baby to ride is in the middle of the back seat, in the rear-facing position. Also, remember to fasten your own seat belt.

If you would like some assistance with your newborn's car seat, call us at (919) 784-3340 to make an appointment.

Our birth center staff will be with you every step of the way to your car, to assist you and answer any further questions you may have about bringing your baby home.
