Rated Best for Heart Attack Survival

Only Hospital in Wake County Ranked Above National Average

Rex Hospital is the only Wake County hospital that ranked above the national average for heart attack patient survival rates, according to Hospital Compare (www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov). Rex's risk-adjusted 30-day mortality rates were 3 percent lower than the national average. Click here for more information.

In 2007, Rex Hospital was one of only 17 hospitals in the country that ranked above the national average for heart attack patient mortality rates, according to a federal ranking system. Rex stood alone on the list as the only North Carolina hospital to be recognized as ranking above the national average for heart attack survival. This was the first time a government agency provided an online ranking system of heart-related deaths at the nation's hospitals. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a division of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS), posted a ranking of more than 4,800 hospitals nationwide online, as measured by patients' heart-attack and heart-failure death rates in 2005 and 2006. The hospital ranking list is posted on the HHS Web site: http://www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov.
