Rex Healthcare to Launch New Mobile Mammography Unit
New Unit Brings Increased Accessibility and Preventative Care for All Women

Who/What:       Rex Healthcare’s newest mobile mammography unit (MMU) has arrived and is ready to hit the road. Revlon is a key sponsor of Rex’s MMU and also considers employee wellness to be vital. The Company schedules several mammography visits to its manufacturing facility in Oxford every year to help ensure its employees have access to top quality mammography screenings.  The unit’s first stop will be at Revlon in Oxford, N.C., on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a visit to Alliance Medical Ministry in Raleigh on Friday, Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The unit will serve a 15-county radius including rural areas with limited access to medical care. Rex mobile mammography delivers easy access, high-quality screenings to women in underserved areas, regardless of their health insurance or financial status. Employers, health clinics, community groups and others have the opportunity to schedule visits.

Screenings on the MMU complement higher-level screening and care available at all Rex Mammography locations. If a patient’s screening mammogram recommends immediate follow up, that patient is contacted directly to prevent any delays in patient care and help navigate the patient to ensure proper follow up diagnosis and treatment.

The hospital’s newest MMU has been made possible by the Rex Healthcare Foundation and the generous support of Revlon, Kay Yow Cancer Fund, Komen for the Cure – Triangle to the Coast, and Hologic. The hospital’s mobile screening efforts have provided nearly 40,000 mammograms since the program began in 2001.

Why: The new MMU, which serves as an extension of Rex’s cancer care, will provide even more women with easy access to screening mammograms, which are vital for earlier detection.  Earlier treatment in the course of a breast cancer diagnosis can greatly increase a patient’s chance of survival. The new MMU is one of two operated by Rex.
