UNC Health Care Opens Pelvic Health Centers in Raleigh and Hillsborough
New Clinics Offer Full Treatment Options for Women Who Often Suffer in Silence

RALEIGH, N.C – UNC Health Care has opened two clinics in Raleigh and Hillsborough focused on treating women suffering from pelvic disorders. The clinics are the only multidisciplinary care sites in North Carolina and are two of only a handful of clinics in the United States specializing in non-cancerous gynecological problems and female pelvic medicine.

UNC Pelvic Health Center at Rex, located at 4325 Lake Boone Trail, Suite 315, Raleigh, will hold an open house on Monday, Aug. 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. UNC Pelvic Health at Hillsborough is located at the new UNC Hillsborough Campus, 460 Waterstone Drive. The clinics offer a full range of treatment options for women who often suffer in silence rather than seek medical or surgical help.

“With these disorders, there is a lot of embarrassment and many women just live with the condition, accepting it as a natural consequence of aging,” said Dr. Catherine A. Matthews, associate professor and director, UNC Pelvic Health. “Appropriate interventions, both medical and surgical, can dramatically improve the quality of life for many women.”

While women of any age can suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction, the pelvic health clinics typically treat women of childbearing age who have had perineal trauma after giving birth, and older, post-menopausal women. The UNC women’s health physicians specialize in treating problems such as urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse and more.

The clinics complement the full range of women’s health services available at UNC and Rex facilities, including Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology and more.
