Learn Your Risk

Prostate cancer is defined as cancer that forms in the tissues of the prostate, below the bladder and in front of the rectum. The causes of prostate cancer are still unclear, but there are several risk factors that can increase your chances of developing prostate cancer:

  • Age 65 and older
  • Family history
  • Race and ethnicity (African-American men have the highest rate of prostate cancer)
  • Nationality (most common in North America, northwestern Europe, Australia, and Caribbean islands)
  • Diet (lots of red meat and high-fat dairy products, too little fruits and vegetables)
  • Inflammation of the prostate
Learn more about these risk factors and how you can help prevent them.
