Pulmonary Rehabilitation

In 2009, Rex Healthcare was recognized for quality cardiac care, receiving Wake County's first pulmonary rehabilitation program certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). ACVPR's certification ensures Rex's Pulmonary Rehabilitation program meets the essential national standards of cardiac and pulmonary care.

Pulmonary rehabilitation at Rex is a program for people with chronic lung diseases like COPD, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The medically supervised Pulmonary rehabilitation program is designed to help patients with chronic lung disease recover more quickly and enhance their quality of life.

Our program is beneficial for patients who:

  • Suffer from respiratory problems and have trouble with simple daily living activities
  • Are recovering from pulmonary surgery
  • Suffer from emphysema
  • Have chronic bronchitis
  • Have asthma

About the Program

Interested in enrolling in Rex's Pulmonary rehabilitation program?  You should know that:

  • Participation begins with a physician referral
  • The program lasts 20 - 36 sessions, depending on the patient's condition and the physician's recommendation
  • After completion of the program, patients are eligible for Rex's Cardiac Maintenance program
  • Billing is on a per-service basis and is typically covered by major medical insurance
  • Following an initial evaluation, monitored exercise sessions are held three times each week
  • Educational sessions on proper breathing techniques and relaxation, as well as nutritional counseling are available
  • Additional education and support programs are available through the Rex Lung Center
