Our Care Team

At Rex Cancer Center, we believe in a team approach to comprehensive cancer treatment. You will be seen by members of a highly skilled medical team consisting of a physician and a physician assistant or nurse practitioner. They will be in constant communication about your care and closely monitor your treatment.

Radiation Oncologists


 

Roger F. Anderson Jr., M.D.

Dr. Anderson graduated from Duke University Medical School where he also completed an internship in internal medicine. He then completed his residency and joined the faculty at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Anderson practiced at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and Children's Hospital in Boston. He has also worked at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Anderson practiced at Rex Cancer Center for nearly 18 years before moving to Charlotte to work at Carolinas Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Anderson returned to the Triangle to join the faculty of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and serve patients at Rex Cancer Center Wakefield.

Courtney M. Bui, M.D.

Dr. Bui earned her medical degree and Master of Science in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following a transitional internship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Dr. Bui completed her residency in radiation oncology at the University of Pennsylvania. She served as an assistant professor in radiation oncology at Johns Hopkins Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She also practiced at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania before moving to the Triangle area.

A. John Fakiris, M.D.

Dr. Fakiris earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. Following an internship in internal medicine at Yale University, he completed his radiation oncology residency at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center. He went on to join the faculty at Indiana University as Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Fakiris now uses his expertise to serve patients at in the Triangle area.

Douglas A. Fein, M.D.

Dr. Fein earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Wake Forest University and his residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Fein went on to work as an assistant professor at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He also worked as an oncologist at Texas Oncology and later as a radiation oncologist at Princeton Radiology Associates.

Leroy George (Pete) Hoffman Jr., M.D.

Dr. Hoffman graduated from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He completed a pediatric residency and radiation oncology residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Dr. Hoffman has served on the board of the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, he was the former medical coordinator of the Rex Cancer Center.

Charles W. Scarantino, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Scarantino received his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He went on to earn his Ph.D. from St. John's University in New York. Before coming to Raleigh, Dr. Scarantino was a member of the faculty at the University of Rochester, Bowman Gray School of Medicine and the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

Nathan C. Sheets, M.D.

Dr. Sheets received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. Following a transitional residency at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, he completed a residency in radiation oncology at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. During his time at UNC, Dr. Sheets was named chief resident and also received the UNC Lineberger Clinical Fellow Award. Justin J. Wu, M.D.

Dr. Wu earned his medical degree from Duke University. Following a medical and pediatric internship at UNC Hospitals, he completed his radiation oncology residency at Duke University Medical Center. After spending more than a decade practicing medicine in Greensboro, North Carolina, Dr. Wu moved to the Triangle area. He has enjoyed using his skills and expertise to care for patients at Rex/UNC Radiation Oncology.
