Rex Cancer Center Receives $30k from Le Tour De Femme
Rex Healthcare's Angel Fund Receives Donation Check from le Tour de Femme
On December 2, Le Tour de Femme, an annual charitable bike race presented by Grab My Wheel, presented the Rex Healthcare Foundation with two donations: new hats, available to any cancer patient (at no cost), and a $30,000 check for funds raised from its annual race to benefit the Rex Healthcare Foundation's Angel Fund.
The sixth annual le Tour de Femme, the premier women's only cycling event in the Southeast, was held on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010. The race included a women's only full metric (62.4 miles), half-metric (31.2 miles) and beginner (15 miles) distance bicycle rides to benefit the Angel Fund and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. A record number of riders (365) participated in the race this year.
Since its inception, the race has raised $102,000 for the Angel Fund. The race brings together women from across the Triangle to celebrate life and raise funds to fight cancer.
The Angel Fund serves Rex Healthcare cancer patients with unique financial needs (including transportation, living expenses and prescriptions) as they cope with the hardships associated with their treatment. The program fills gaps where other services are not available. This fund also helps provide accessories like free wigs, scarves, prosthesis, bras, tote bags, pillows and lap quilts for patients coping with cancer.
