RALEIGH, N.C. - Rex Healthcare is proud to host a celebration to mark National Cancer Survivors Day on June 3, the 23rd year the hospital will bring together Triangle survivors. The event, which is expected to attract hundreds of survivors, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Rex Cancer Center parking lot.
The casual, family friendly affair will feature refreshments, activities and live beach music by the Band of Oz. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with each other and with Rex physicians who have improved the lives of thousands of cancer survivors.
"Cancer affects so many people in our community, taking patients and their loved ones on an uncertain and difficult journey," said Vickie Byler, director of the Rex Cancer Center. "Rex Healthcare is dedicated to providing the best cancer care possible, but we also recognize the importance of celebrating the strength of those who have faced this challenge."
It is estimated that there will be 51,860 new cancer cases in North Carolina this year. Thanks to earlier detection, improved treatments and supportive care of family and friends, there are now more than 10 million cancer survivors nationwide.
"It's inspiring to see familiar faces and how well they're doing, as well as new faces," said Gracie Mangum, a 12-year survivor who plans to attend the National Cancer Survivors Day event at Rex again this year with her sister, a 20-year survivor. "It's important for all of us to help each other move forward."
For more information and to register for the event, please call the Rex Cancer Center at (919) 784-3105. The event is free and open to the public, but attendees are asked to RSVP by May 23. Rex Hospital is located at 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, N.C. 27607.
