Rex Launches Heart Health Awareness Month

RALEIGH, N.C. - Today Rex Healthcare, in observance of National Heart Month, announced the launch of a month-long campaign that began Feb. 1, 2011, to raise awareness of heart diseases and promote heart health education. The campaign includes contests, events, health screenings and educational sessions.

In February, Rex will also launch its quarterly Healthy Heart publication dedicated to helping people improve their heart health. Throughout the year, the publication will be a resource for the community by providing health tips and prevention information to readers.

Rex's specific heath awareness efforts this month include:

  • "Ask the Expert" educational sessions Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. - "Ask the Expert: Preventing and Living with Heart Disease" will be held February 5 at the Rex Wellness Center of Cary and February 12 at the Rex Wellness Center of Raleigh. The sessions will be led by Bruce Usher Jr., M.D., and Sameh Mobarek, M.D., both of Rex Heart and Vascular Specialists. To register, call (919) 784-7764.   • Hearth Month with the Hurricanes - During the Carolina Hurricanes games in February, fans will be prompted to text REX HEART to 53137 for a chance to win an autographed Canes stick. Fans can also text, email or mail a video telling Rex how they met their significant other for a chance to win an autographed jersey and 2012 season tickets for two.
  • 22nd Annual Rex Healthcare Update in Cardiology, which brings together researchers, physicians and other clinicians from across the country to discuss best practices in cardiac care, will be held February 26 from 7a.m. - 3:15 p.m. at Renaissance Hotel - North Hills.
  • Free Lowes Foods coupon for taking online heart screenings - Rex Healthcare and Lowes Foods are teaming up to help Triangle residents take care of their heart with HeartAware, an online heart health risk assessment which provides cardiac awareness and information from the National Heart Organization.. After completing the free assessment, participants should provide a mailing address and Lowes Reward Number to receive a free $5 Lowes Foods coupon.* Qualifying participants are also eligible for a free, confidential, noninvasive screening program at Rex Hospital.
