Business North Carolina Names Rex Healthcare 2015’s Best Hospital in the State
RALEIGH, N.C. – Rex Healthcare is proud to top Business North Carolina magazine’s 2015 ranking of the best hospitals in North Carolina. It’s the third consecutive year that Rex, part of UNC Health Care, has taken the prestigious magazine’s No. 1 spot.
Rex won by achieving the highest composite score on the magazine’s list, which is based on 18 criteria. Rex distinguishes itself by continually having fewer patient readmissions and complications from surgeries. The hospital also scored high in patient satisfaction, which reflects considerations including attentiveness of staff, cleanliness and a patient’s overall outlook on their stay.
“Lists like this reinforce Rex’s reputation as a destination for excellent medical care for patients in Wake County and beyond,” said Steve Burriss, interim president of Rex Healthcare. “I’d like to thank all of our co-workers, physicians and volunteers for the compassionate care provided to Rex’s patients and their families.”
The rankings include the state’s adult, acute-care hospitals with 50 beds or more. Scores are calculated by examining data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicine Services, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, U.S. News & World Report and The Leapfrog Group. New criteria for 2015 include overall hospital readmission rates and readmission rates for hip and knee replacements. Other metrics include readmission and death rates for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. More value is given to some benchmarks, such as patient satisfaction.
