Rex Hospital Open Tees Off for Charity

Top Professional Golf, Fan-Friendly Events Abound the Week of May 25-31                                                                                                       


The Rex Hospital Open, an official stop on the 2015 Tour PGA TOUR, is scheduled for May 25-31 at TPC Wakefield Plantation in North Raleigh. Professional golfers travel from around the world to compete in Triangle’s premier charity golf tournament. This is the 28th year of Rex charity golf, and the 11th year at TPC Wakefield Plantation.

Golf enthusiasts will enjoy a competitive field, beautiful landscape and family-friendly activities. Admission is $10 for a daily grounds pass and $25 for a weekly grounds pass. Champions Club VIP passes are available for $50 per day and include snacks and beverages. Tickets are available online at and may also be purchased at the gate. Public parking and free shuttles are available at Rex Healthcare of Wakefield, 11200 Governor Manly Way, Raleigh. This year, Rex is proud to offer free general admission Thursday-Sunday for children 16 and under, active and retired military, veterans and all Wake County Public School System employees with valid ID. 


Rex charity golf has raised more than $9 million to support patients, programs and services at Rex Hospital through the Rex Healthcare Foundation. Funds raised this year will benefit Patient Assistance Programs and Services at Rex, and the Rex Cancer Center Angel Fund, which supports oncology patients undergoing treatment.


More than 150 professional golfers on the Tour will compete in the 2015 Rex Hospital Open. Players with local ties can be made available for interviews, including:

  • Wes Roach graduated from Duke University in 2011. He is currently third on the Tour money list. On April 19 he had his first professional win in the El Bosque Mexico Championship.
  • Harold Varner III turned professional in 2012 after graduating from East Carolina University. He finished second in last year’s Rex Hospital Open and is currently 14th on the Tour money list.
  • Ryan Blaum is a 2006 Duke graduate who is currently 40th on the Tour money list. He’s had two top 10 tournament finishes in the past three months.
