Learn Your Risk

Are you concerned that you or a loved one may have a form of diabetes? The American Diabetes Association recommends that adults should have a fasting blood glucose test at age 45. Those with normal results should be re-tested every three years to ensure good health.

Adults and children are susceptible to developing diabetes at any age. Many people with diabetes often fail to notice symptoms. If you notice any of the following symptoms, contact your physician:

  • Frequent urination
  • Fatigue
  • Blurred Vision
  • Unexplained Weight Loss
  • Frequent infections
  • Wounds/sores that will not heal

DiabetesAware Online Screening

The DiabetesAware online diabetes screening takes just seven minutes and provides information about your personal risk for diabetes. Answer a few simple questions and DiabetesAware will provide you with a report of your risk factors and recommendations for improving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

There is no feel for the DiabetesAware program and you may even qualify for a FREE follow-up consultation and FREE email newsletters with heart healthy lifestyle tips. All of your information is kept confidential. At the end of the assessment, if you are at risk, you will be contacted about a FREE follow-up screening and consultation session with a Rex clinician.

The screening consists of:

  • fasting blood cholesterol and glucose test
  • blood pressure check
  • height, weight, waist circumference and BMI (Body Mass Index)
  • consultation with a clinician

The screening is held at Rex Hospital's Early Detection Center located at 4420 Lake Boone Trail in Raleigh. After the screening, you will receive a confidential report and referred to your doctor for results.
