PET & SPECT CT
While imaging methods like X-ray, CT and MRI provide information about the body's anatomy, PET and SPECT CT provide information about the body's biological activities.
Certain "hybrid" imaging systems have been developed to acquire anatomical and biological information in one study. This technology helps Rex physicians diagnose and treat disease sooner, because biological processes associated with disease may be happening before they are visible through changes in anatomy.
SPECT CT at UNC REX quickly captures comprehensive, accurate diagnostic information, allowing our physicians to detect changes in molecular activity even before structural changes become visible. With earlier and more accurate diagnosis, UNC REX physicians can plan treatment more effectively, provide feedback on treatment effectiveness, help to avoid unnecessary invasive surgery and reduce the risks of unnecessary surgery.
Your physician will recommend these tests as needed and will provide a valid written physician order that states the procedure to be performed with a valid diagnosis.
