Rex Senior Health Center is located at 512 E. Davie Street and Chavis Way, in the heart of southeast Raleigh. The Rex Senior Health Center works like a physician's office with enhanced services, designed to meet the needs of seniors in our community. An internal medicine physician and registered nurse are part of the core team of health care providers.

The staff works closely with each patient, providing preventive care, care for chronic conditions such as diabetes and asthma and care for acute medical conditions. The goal is to maintain optimal health, while emphasizing preventative health screening and education.

Our Physicians


Leroy S. Darkes, M.D.

Dr. Darkes serves as Medical Director of Rex Senior Health Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and a graduate of Rutgers College New Brunswick, NJ and Rutgers Medical School in Piscataway, NJ.  His internship and residency programs in Internal Medicine were completed at Cooper Hospital University Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey.  In 1989, Dr. Darkes moved to NC and became Chief of Quality Resource Management at Kaiser Permanente until he joined Rex Healthcare and opened the Rex Senior Health Center in 1997. Dr. Darkes appears regularly on WSHA's radio programs.

 

Tajuana Lordeus, P.A.-C.

Ms. Lordeus has been practicing as a physician assistant for the past 12 years and has extensive primary care experience evaluating and treating patients of all ages. She worked five years for the North Carolina Health Department and the last seven years in urgent care, emergency and family clinics in the Raleigh area. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical sciences from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI and her Master of Science degree in physician assistant studies from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, MI. Ms. Lordeus is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the North Carolina Academy of Physicians.
