College Student Volunteer Program
An opportunity to learn, the possibility to share and the chance to care, that’s what being a student volunteer is all about.
At Rex, college and graduate student volunteers give of themselves by working in a variety of positions throughout our organization making a difference in the lives of our patients, family members and caregivers everyday. Placement areas include, but not limited to patient care floors, Food and Nutrition, the Child Development Center and Same Day Surgery.
Students receive hands-on experience while working in a professional
healthcare environment that is committed to providing superior customer
service.
Program requirements include:
• Be enrolled in a college program on a full or part-time basis.
• Commit to volunteering a minimum of once a week for a four-hour
shift. (Eight to 10-hour minimum per week for an internship position.)
• Available to work for a minimum of eight weeks (10 weeks for
an internship position.)
• Complete an all-day general Rex Healthcare orientation session
and be trained in their job-specific area or department.
• Adhere by all Rex policies and procedures, including the dress
code.
• Be responsible for finding substitutes when unavailable for
assigned shift.
Applications for the Rex College Volunteer program are due in the Volunteer
Services office by the following dates in order to volunteer in the
corresponding school term:

Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on January 16 for the SPRING 2009 PROGRAM (January - early May) and by 5 p.m. on May 16 for the
SUMMER 2009 PROGRAM (mid-May - Mid August).

College Internships
Rex Healthcare offers a variety of internship opportunities for area
college students who are looking for ways to enhance their college experience
and get a head start on gaining invaluable exposure for a career in
healthcare.
Internships require a greater commitment of time that most volunteer
assignments and students must have completed course work in the area
of the assigned internship. Volunteer interns must also complete a tangible
project during their tenure at Rex Healthcare.
