Since 1920, volunteers have been the lifeblood of Rex Hospital's outreach efforts. Today, Rex volunteers contribute more than 144,000 hours of service in 120 positions involving a variety of skills, challenges and levels of participation.

Rex volunteers range in age from 14 to over 90. There are 80 diverse volunteer positions, with volunteers needed daily from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Based on assignment, volunteer shifts run from three to four hours, and flexible scheduling is available.

Volunteer Categories

There are three volunteer categories:

  • Adults: Anyone over age 18 who is not in either of the programs below
  • College: Students pursuing higher education in any field of study
  • Teen Program: Students 14-18 years old

Interested in Volunteering at Rex?

It's easy to become a Rex volunteer:

  1. Complete a volunteer application
  2. Attend a personal interview
  3. Submit two references who are adults and are familiar with your character/work habits.
  4. Complete criminal background check and pre-volunteer drug screen.
  5. Complete health assessment to screen for TB (tuberculosis), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Pertusis (whooping cough, and Varicella (chicken pox).
  6. Attend all day general orientation class.
