Top High School Golfers to Face Off in Rex Hospital Open Junior Invitational - June 16

One Up-And-Coming Golf Star Will Win the Opportunity to Compete With Pros in Rex Hospital Open

WHAT
The Rex Hospital Open Junior Invitational invites North Carolina’s top-ranked high school golfers to compete for a spot in the Rex Hospital Open on Father’s Day, June 16. Many of the players participating in the Junior Invitational are headed to college and plan to play NCAA Division I golf next year. As an official Web.com PGA Tour event, the Rex Hospital Open is one of the few events offering junior, amateur golfers the opportunity to compete in a major professional tour event on a premier golf course.

WHO
Dozens of high school golfers from across North Carolina will compete for a chance to play in the Rex Hospital Open, June 20-23. Recent Junior Invitational winners include:

  • Raleigh native Grayson Murray won the Rex Hospital Open Junior Invitational twice, in 2010 and 2012. The first time, he became the second-youngest golfer to make a cut at a PGA Tour event. Murray recently transferred to UNC-Greensboro and plans to play on its golf team next year. He’s one of the top collegiate golfers in the country and recently qualified for the U.S. Open.
  • The 2011 winner, Carter Jenkins of Raleigh, is scheduled to compete again in this year’s Junior Invitational. In December, Jenkins was named the 2012 N.C. Junior Player of the Year by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association. A senior at Leesville Road High School, Jenkins has committed to play at UNC-Greensboro in the fall.
