Expecting a baby is a special time for you and your family, and Rex is proud to be a part of your experience. At Rex, we believe that warmth and compassion are important components of superior healthcare. And to us, each individual baby is truly special.
The information provided here may help answer questions you have about preparing for your baby's birth and your hospital stay. If you have further questions, please check with your physician or your baby's pediatrician. If you are looking for a physician, Rex HealthNet, Rex Healthcare's physician referral service, can provide the names of obstetricians, pediatricians and family physicians in an area convenient to you. You can reach Rex HealthNet Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., by calling (919) 784-4490.
If you think that you are in labor, notify your physician. When your physician instructs you to come to Rex Women's Center, bring with you a small "labor bag" with toiletries, contact lens supplies, snacks for your partner, telephone numbers, a camera and any other comfort measures you desire to have with you during your stay at Rex.
Upon arrival at the Rex Women's Center, you may either be dropped off under the covered entrance in front of the Women's Center or park in the Women's Center parking deck and walk to the entrance. You may leave your suitcase with baby clothes and other post-delivery items in your car until after delivery if you choose. Please remember to bring a copy of your advance directives (living will and/or health care power of attorney) with you when checking in.
Expectant parents should enter the Women's Center lobby and take the elevator up to the second floor. Once on the second floor, parents should check in at the registration desk. After checking in, you and your partner will be directed to our patient waiting area.
Rex Women's Center
Having a baby is a very special experience and we want you to feel comfortable in your surroundings. Together, you and your partner will be in one of the Rex Women's Center home-like birthing rooms, which are available with the latest equipment to help your delivery go smoothly. If you need a Cesarean delivery, or C-section, your partner may remain with you in the Women's Center operating room with your physician's permission. After delivery, you will be cared for in one of Rex's post-partum suites. Rex staff is trained to anticipate your needs and provide care based on your individual circumstances. We encourage you to ask your nurse for assistance, information or instruction at any point during your stay at Rex.
Rex Women's Center can also help you schedule childbirth classes that are convenient for you and your partner at several locations throughout Wake County. Parents can also register for childbirth classes online.
