Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery allows some procedures to performed less invasively through the use of tools that can be inserted into very small incisions in the abdomen. Through the use of a small camera and long, narrow tools, a surgeon can view the surgical site on a monitor and manipulate tissue without having to perform an invasive procedure.

Not all procedures can be performed laparoscopically, but some common laparoscopic procedures are:

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy
  • Laparoscopic hernia repair
  • Laparoscopic colon removal
  • Laparoscopic splenectomy
  • Laparoscopic adrenalectomy
  • Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication (reflux surgery)
  • SILS (single incision laparoscopic surgery)
