Dr. Dorian deFreitas

Dorian J. deFreitas, M.D. is a vascular surgeon with additional fellowship training in endovascular therapy. He graduated from medical school at National University of Ireland, Galway and completed his internship at University College Hospital Galway. Dr. deFreitas did his surgical residency at East Carolina University and a cardiovascular research fellowship at East Carolina Cardiovascular Institute. He completed fellowship training in vascular surgery and endovascular therapy at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.Dr. deFreitas is a member of the American Medical Association and a member of the candidate group with the American College of Surgeons, Society for Vascular Surgery and the Peripheral Vascular Surgical Society. He is board certified in general and board eligible in vascular surgery. 

Peter F. Ford, M.B.B.S. is a fellowship-trained vascular surgeon. He graduated from Monash University School of Medicine in Australia and where he stayed for his internship at Monash University Teaching Hospital. Dr. Ford completed the surgical residency program at Erie County Medical Center through State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Ford continued his training at UNC Hospitals with a fellowship in Vascular Surgery. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Ford stayed at the University of North Carolina where he is currently Assistant Professor of Surgery for the Division of Vascular Surgery. Dr. Ford is Board Certified by the American Board of Vascular Surgery and American Board of General Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons.

Joseph J. Fulton, M.D. is a fellowship-trained vascular surgeon. He graduated from State University of New York Health Sciences Center at Syracuse and completed his internship and surgical residency at UNC Hospitals where he was Administrative Chief Resident. Dr. Fulton continued his training at UNC Hospitals with a fellowship in Vascular Surgery. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Fulton stayed at the University of North Carolina where he is currently Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery for the Division of Vascular Surgery. In 2011, he took part in the Malawi Surgical Initiative where he provided surgical services and education in Malawi Africa. Dr. Fulton is Board Certified by the American Board of Vascular Surgery and American Board of General Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons. .

Bobby R. Mendes, M.D. is Chief of Vascular Surgery at Rex Healthcare and Medical Director of Rex Vascular Surgical Specialists. Dr. Mendes graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery and fellowships in Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. After completing his fellowships, he took a position as Medical Director of Vascular Services at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga. He also served as the Medical Director for the Harry T. Harper School of Cardiac and Vascular Technology in Augusta. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Vascular Surgery and American Board of General Surgery.

David C. Powell M.D., F.A.C.S., R.P.V.I. is a surgeon with Rex Surgical Specialists focusing on peripheral vascular surgery and venous disease. Dr. Powell earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He went on to complete his residency at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Powell is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). He is one of 10 physicians in North Carolina to hold Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) certification and is currently providing VNUS closure for the treatment of varicose veins.

David A. Smith, M.D. is a surgeon with Rex Surgical Specialists focusing on vein treatment. Dr. Smith received his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont and earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. He is a Diplomate with the American Board of Surgery.

S. Wayne Smith, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.S.V.M. is Founder and Medical Director of the Rex Peripheral Vascular Laboratory. He specializes in diagnostics and treatment of venous disease. Dr. Smith is a graduate of The School of Medicine of The University of North Carolina and has over 35 years of experience as a practitioner, educator and leader in the field of vascular medicine. He is a clinical professor of medicine at UNC and is board certified in vascular medicine and internal medicine. Dr. Smith is also active in clinical research, currently focusing on deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli.

Seth M. Weinreb M.D., F.A.C.S. is a surgeon with Rex Surgical Specialists focusing on vein treatment. Dr. Weinreb completed his undergraduate education at Yale University, earned his medical degree at Harvard University, and completed his internship and residency at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Weinreb is an active member Society for Vascular Ultrasound, serves as the vice chairman of the Rex Hospital Department of Surgery, and is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Surgery at UNC School of Medicine.
