UNC Rex Cancer Care- Outreach Programs
UNC Rex Cancer Care outreach programs provide men and women with a variety of services to help keep them informed so they can take better care of themselves and their families. We believe wellness and preventive health care are among the greatest gifts you can give yourself and those you care about - today, tomorrow and for life.
Early Detection Workshops
Interactive workshops and presentations are designed to educate adults in the community about the importance of early detection of cancer. Our workshops and lectures are led by members of Save Our Sisters of Rex, Brothers and Sisters of Rex, specially trained health instructors and registered nurses. They are customized to fit the needs of your group, business or place of worship. For more information or to schedule a workshop or presentation, please call (919) 784-6247.
Save Our Sisters of Rex
Save Our Sisters of Rex is a group of specially trained volunteers from the community and Rex who have made a commitment to provide local citizens with the most current breast health information, resources and support. Many members of the Save Our Sisters team are breast cancer survivors.
The group's goal is to increase awareness of breast cancer and promote age-appropriate mammogram screenings throughout the community. Save Our Sisters of Rex provides education and information at workshops, businesses, community service groups, health fairs, churches and neighborhood salons through the Pink Tote Campaign.
The Pink Tote campaign is designed to provide information to women about breast health and offer support that they may need in a comfortable setting. During the months of September and October (every other year), Save Our Sisters members visit hair and nail salons. After the clients are educated by one of the SOS members, they receive a pink tote containing pertinent information and incentive items.

These specially trained volunteers have made a commitment to provide local citizens with the most current health information and support resources at workshops, health fairs, businesses, churches, community service groups and other community events.
