Rex Blood Services Provides Free Food, Other Goodies to Donors in December

Donating Blood is a Good Way to Give Back During Critical Holiday Season

December 7, 2011

What: Rex Blood Services is offering free lunches from a variety of local restaurants every Monday and Friday, and breakfast on Thursdays during December as part of a month-long blood donation campaign. The donor center also will hold weekly raffles for $100 Wal-Mart gift cards, Nutcracker tickets and other freebies.

Why: Blood donations often decline during winter months, especially with regular donors dealing with the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Seasonal illnesses also have an impact on donations. "At the same time, with cold and flu season we have more people in the hospital and that does increase the demand," said Emilie Sanders Watson, coordinator of donor services at Rex. "As the holidays gear up, we'd like healthy donors to remember this critical activity."

Where: Rex Blood Services, 2709 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 150. For more information, visit rexhealth.com/blood. Walk-ins are welcome, or to schedule an appointment to donate, call (919) 784-4750.

Who: Interviews of donors can be arranged at the Rex Blood Services center. Contact Alan Wolf, Rex's media relations coordinator at (919) 784-4467 or alan.wolf@rexhealth.com.

Note: On Dec. 16, the Rex Bloodmobile and blood collection team will visit Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh. Donors will be eligible for gift certificates from Aladdin's Eatery and other giveaways.
