High Quality, Safe and Equitable Care
Our top priority is to provide our patients and their families with the best, safest and most fair care. We are always working to make our processes and overall care better.
We have a strong quality and safety program led by national standards and best practices to ensure care that is:
Safe
Avoiding injuries to patients from the care that is supposed to help them. This follows The Joint Commission (TJC) National Patient Safety Goals.
Effective
We know the care works and is based on evidence.
Patient-centered
Respectful of and responsive to your individual preferences, needs and values. We want you to be an active part of the care team and let your values help guide clinical decisions.
- We encourage you to learn about your rights and responsibilities as a patient.
- During your visit you will receive a packet of information with useful tips to help you and your care team. You are a vital member of the care team and we encourage you to “Speak Up” and advocate for yourself.
- After your visit you may receive a survey and we invite you to respond.
Timely
Reducing delays and wait times.
Efficient
Avoiding waste of resources like supplies and equipment.
Equitable
Making sure that care does not vary based upon age, race, ethnicity, color, religion, culture, language, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity (or expression), national origin, expression, or source of payment.

Patient Experience
Because quality goes beyond measuring clinical care, we think it is important to know how our patients feel about their care.
For ways that you can get involved and help other patients, please see information on the UNC Health Rex Patient and Family Advisory Councils.
The Hospital Quality Alliance is a public-private collaboration established to promote reporting on hospital quality of care. As a third-party evaluator, Hospital Compare's sole mission is to compare and rank key services. The Hospital Compare website displays how often hospitals provide recommended for patients having surgery, or being treated for a heart attack, heart failure or pneumonia.
