Rex Surgical Specialists Adds New Bariatric Surgeon to Its Expanding Practice
RALEIGH, N.C. – Rex Surgical Specialists is proud to announce a new addition to its team of renowned surgeons. Dr. Dustin M. Bermudez, who is fellowship-trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, is now seeing patients.
Dr. Bermudez joins the fast-growing bariatric surgery division of Rex Surgical Specialists, a team that includes Dr. Peter C. Ng and Dr. Lindsey S. Sharp. He will work out of the Bariatric Center that Rex Surgical Specialists recently opened in Raleigh (4207 Lake Boone Trail, Suite 210).
"Dr. Bermudez is a fellowship-trained specialist in minially invasive weight-loss surgery. He joins us with impeccable academic credentials and technical skills to match," said Dr. Ng. "We welcome his clinical expertise, compassion and dedication to excellence, all hallmarks of our practice."
Dr. Bermudez received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and earned his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine. He did his general surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia and then completed his fellowship at East Carolina University/Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
"I joined Rex Surgical because aside from having the best reputation in the Triangle, they share my commitment to changing patients' lives by improving their health and wellness," Dr. Bermudez said. "There is nothing more rewarding than that."
Demand for weight-loss surgery at Rex Surgical continues to grow as more evidence shows how obesity, which affects nearly one-third of North Carolinians, can adversely impact human health. Its detrimental effects include diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and osteoarthritis.
The bariatric surgery division of Rex Surgical, recognized by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, offers a wide range of surgical services with comprehensive pre- and post-operative patient resources. The multidisciplinary team includes dietitians, a psychologist, surgeons and clinical nurse specialists who guide patients through the weight-loss process. The Raleigh bariatric center holds weekly information sessions for new patients, offering a chance to hear from post-op patients and clinical experts. Monthly support groups led by the surgeons give patients the chance to meet and learn from post-op "mentors," guest speakers and a variety of experts from Rex. The center features convenient parking, an on-site dietitian and nutrition supplement store, a kitchen for healthy cooking demonstrations, and other amenities.
