Rex Healthcare Recognized as "Top Performer" in Joint Commission Annual Report
RALEIGH, N.C. – Rex Healthcare has been recognized as a "Top Performer" in a national ranking on patient care by the Joint Commission. The highly regarded annual report designates "top performers" among health care organizations that demonstrate exemplary execution in using evidence-based clinical processes to improve care for patients.
"Every co-worker at Rex plays a huge role in providing safe, high-quality care to all of our patients,” said Rex Chief Operating Officer Steve Burriss. "Rex is routinely recognized for its excellent medical care, but we continue to strive to find new ways to improve and innovate."
Rex was recognized for its achievements in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. Rex is one of 1,099 hospitals nationwide earning the distinction of "Top Performer on Key Quality Measures" for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure data. To earn the designation, Rex achieved cumulative performance of 95 percent or higher across all reported accountability measures. Each measure represents an evidence-based practice, such as giving aspirin to heart attack patients on arrival or giving antibiotics one hour before surgery.
"Rex and all the Top Performer Hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement," said Mark Chassin, CEO of the Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America.

The Joint Commission designation follows other recent accolades for Rex, including the Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation and an "A" safety grade from the Leapfrog Group. Rex also was honored this week by the Triangle Business Journal as one of this region's Healthiest Employers.
