Prevention Partners Congratulates Rex Healthcare as Gold Apple Hospital

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Rex Healthcare was recognized by Prevention Partners for providing the highest standard of excellence for comprehensive wellness programs offered to their employees through their healthy food environment. Hospitals receiving this acknowledgment are considered Gold Apple Hospitals. Funded by the Duke Endowment, Prevention Partners is working to improve the health of hospital employees across the state of North Carolina by creating worksite wellness environments where the healthy choice is the easy choice.

"Rex is honored to be recognized by Prevention Partners as a Gold Apple Hospital," said Jim McGrody, Rex's director of Culinary and Nutrition Services. "Providing our employees with easily accessible wellness programs and healthy food choices is a top priority for Rex, and this recognition shows that our initiatives to do so are making an impact. Rex will continue to set a high bar for employee wellness efforts and hopes to encourage others to do the same."

Rex Healthcare addresses how policy, the environment, education, benefits and incentives support healthy eating. The Gold Apple is awarded to hospitals that provide delicious, affordable and healthy foods to all employees all the time. Rex Healthcare just celebrated the one-year anniversary of being the first hospital in N.C. to remove fried food from the menus.

"Rex Healthcare continues to set a high bar of excellence in terms of their employee wellness program. They provide their employees every opportunity to eat healthy," commented Anne Thornhill, Director at Prevention Partners. "I applaud their great effort."
