Rex Healthcare and St. Augustine’s Team Up to Host Blood Drive
Donations to Help Meet Increasing Need for Blood Types O and B
Who/What: Rex Healthcare, along with St. Augustine’s University and its Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, will host a blood drive event.
Why: The blood drive provides an opportunity to meet a growing need for donations. Specifically, increasing donations of blood types O and B is essential since about 70 percent of African Americans have these types of blood. Types O and B are also the types most in demand for African Americans suffering from diseases like sickle-cell anemia, cancer and heart disease.
The event also provides an opportunity for students and donors to give back to the community and make a meaningful contribution to health care for those in the area. Currently, supplies are low after taking a hit from this week's snow storm, which disrupted regular donations.
When: Tuesday, Feb. 18
11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: St. Augustine’s University
1315 Oakwood Ave
Raleigh, NC 27610
Media Note: For media inquiries or to attend the event, please contact: Alan Wolf, Rex Healthcare, (919) 784-4467, alan.wolf@rexhealth.com.
