Rex Healthcare Named to Becker's List of Top 100 Heart Hospitals

Recognition Comes as Rex Looks Ahead to New Heart Hospital on Raleigh Campus

RALEIGH, N.C.– Rex Healthcare was named one of the country's Top 100 Cardiac Hospitals for 2013 by Becker's Hospital Review. The Becker's editorial team selected the 100 hospitals based on recognition for quality care, clinical awards and research contributions to cardiovascular care. Hospitals could not pay to be included on the list.

"Rex is proud to be known as one of the country’s top hospitals for heart and vascular care," said Erick Hawkins, vice president of Heart and Vascular Services for UNC Health Care. "This type of recognition shows why Rex is a destination for high quality heart and vascular care and only happens as a result of the skilled and passionate work our team of heart and vascular physicians and co-workers perform every day."

Becker's noted that the Heart and Vascular Center at Rex Hospital is comprised of four specialty practices in Raleigh and surrounding areas. Rex's heart attack survival statistics are the best in Wake County, and the program features an accredited chest pain center, Becker’s wrote. In addition, Rex was recently designated a high-quality heart care facility by The American College of Cardiology Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

The Becker's recognition comes as Rex prepares to begin construction of the N.C. Heart & Vascular Hospital on its main Raleigh campus. The new facility, which is scheduled to open in late 2016, will provide comprehensive cardiovascular care for patients across Wake County and surrounding areas.
