Rex Healthcare Opens Rex Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists at Wakefield

New practice will offer broad range of advanced treatment for ears, nose, sinuses and throat

RALEIGH, N.C. – Rex Healthcare announced the opening of Rex Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists at Wakefield. Led by Dr. Brett Dorfman and Dr. Esa Bloedon, physicians who are new to Rex Healthcare, but who have been practicing for a combined 22 years in Raleigh and surrounding areas, the practice provides a full range of medical and surgical ear, nose and throat treatment for adult and pediatric patients.

“Drs. Dorfman and Bloedon are excellent additions to our team because of their strong track record of providing compassionate and high-quality care for Raleigh patients,” said Steve Burriss, Rex Healthcare’s chief operating officer.

Dr. Dorfman earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He completed both his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery - at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Dorfman is board certified in otolaryngology. He specializes in adult and pediatric ENT disorders, medical and surgical diseases of the ear, allergies, head and neck surgery, sinus surgery, thyroid surgery and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He has been involved in several research studies and has been the principal author in numerous papers published in peer-reviewed journals. “Joining Rex helps us improve access to comprehensive care for patients close to home,” Dr. Dorfman said. “We are able to expand the services we offer under one roof.”

Dr. Bloedon earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Bloedon is board certified in otolaryngology from the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. His clinical interests are adult and pediatric ENT disorders, sinus disease and surgery, thyroid surgery, rhinology and otology. Bloedon is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and has been published in journals such as Laryngoscope, Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, and Otology & Neurotology. Dr. Bloedon earned the Stephen G. Balshi Prize for his research on contrast-enhanced ultrasound-guided sentinel lymph node biopsy, and the S. MacCuen Smith Memorial Prize in Otology. “I am excited to join Rex and to have this opportunity to bring more specialized services to the Wakefield community,” Dr. Bloedon said.

The practice also offers comprehensive audiology services including hearing aids. As part of UNC Health Care, the practice give patients more access to research on new therapies and clinical trials at one of the world's top academic medical centers.

Rex Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists at Wakefield is located at Rex Healthcare of Wakefield in Raleigh. The practice opens in a temporary location November 17, 2014, at 11200 Governor Manly Way, Suite 205. Their permanent space will be located at 11200 Governor Manly Way, Suite 301 beginning February 2015.
