UNC Health Rex Welcomes Benjamin Mathew as Finance Chief

Mathew will serve as CFO for Triangle East, which includes Rex and Johnston

RALEIGH, N.C. – Feb. 22, 2023 – UNC Health Rex has added Benjamin Mathew to its leadership team in the role of vice president and chief financial officer of Triangle East.

The Triangle East region includes hospitals and clinics in Raleigh, Holly Springs, Clayton and Smithfield and elsewhere operated by UNC Health Rex and UNC Health Johnston.

“We are confident that Ben’s experience will help ensure that our teammates and physicians continue to have the resources they need to provide excellent care,” said Ernie Bovio, president of UNC Health Rex.

Mathew began his career at UNC Health in 2012. He has served in various finance leadership roles at Rex and most recently was system vice president of corporate finance for UNC Health.

“I’m thrilled to return to the place where I began my career and developed many close relationships with our teammates and leadership during my time at Rex,” Mathew said. “I look forward to helping the organization navigate the complexities of health care delivery in a challenging environment as we care for our patients, invest in our teammates, and secure our organization’s financial health.”

He moved to the Raleigh area in 2010 to attend the Jenkins Graduate School of Management at N.C. State, where he earned his MBA in corporate finance. Mathew lives in Raleigh with his wife Crystal and their two kids. He is an avid cyclist.
