Choose from a variety of parenting classes available to you and everyone involved in your new baby’s arrival. You’ll learn ways you can prepare yourself for childbirth and what happens afterward.
Participate in educational courses offered at UNC REX Healthcare that help bring your child into the world. Topics include:

Take advantage of our helpful birthing classes whether you’re a first-time parent or you’ve given birth before. You can learn techniques that make the birthing process more comfortable and ease your fears on delivery day. We are currently offering our birthing class via WebEx.
Understanding Birth eClass w/Live Virtual 'Meet-up' AND Live Labor Support
Understanding Birth eClass is a unique online learning experience that provides comprehensive information you can trust as you prepare for your upcoming birth. In this class, you will learn all about the birth process and medical procedures through helpful video clips, animations, and interactive games. You will also get a sense of what labor is really like as you watch several birth stories.
Prior to starting your eClass, we invite you and a support person to join a live virtual Welcome WebEx session where you can connect with a UNC Rex Certified Childbirth Instructor as well as other class members. Your instructor will help prepare you for your eClass learning.
Once you have attended your Welcome WebEx, we will email you your log-in instructions to start the eClass. You will have 4 weeks to complete your eClass. After finishing your eClass, you and your support person will attend a follow-up Labor Support WebEx with your childbirth instructor and fellow class members. In this virtual session, you will have the chance to ask questions about the eClass content as well as practice various labor support strategies including: comfort measures, positioning, relaxation techniques, and emotional support.
Please ensure that both WebEx dates work for you and your support person’s schedule; we are unable to switch your WebEx after registration.
Please note: A tour of the Women's Hospital is NOT included in this class. Please also register for a Women's Hospital Guided Virtual Tour when you complete this class registration. There is no charge for the tour. You can register for the Virtual Tour via our class registration site.
Breastfeeding classes can help you prepare before you start breastfeeding and learn how to feed your baby after you return to work. We currently offer one breastfeeding e-class, "Understanding Breastfeeding."
A unique online learning experience that provides comprehensive information you can trust about breastfeeding. In this class, you’ll learn all about breastfeeding through instructive video clips, animations, and interactive games. You’ll also get a sense of what it’s really like to breastfeed as you hear from moms who have been there!
In addition, you will also have the opportunity to connect as a class for a live virtual Q&A WebEx with an International Certified Lactation Consultant, IBCLC or Certified Perinatal Instructor.
Learn how to care for yourself and your baby after your delivery. You can take advantage of our postpartum e-class, "Understanding Your Newborn."
Understanding Your Newborn
Understanding Your Newborn eClass, a unique online learning experience that provides comprehensive information you can trust as you prepare to become a new parent. In this class you’ll learn all about how to care for your newborn through instructive video clips, animations, and interactive games. You’ll also learn why bonding is so important for brain development and how reading your baby’s cues helps you understand what they need.
In addition, you will also have the opportunity to connect as a class for a live virtual Q&A WebEx with a Certified Perinatal Instructor.
This free Postpartum Planning class introduces the extremely beneficial process of preparing for the postpartum period by learning about what to expect and evaluating and preparing to care for your own wellbeing along with the babies. We will also discuss in depth what postpartum mood disorders look like in both women and men, and how, when and where to seek help.
Each family will be given a postpartum plan document intended to help prepare for and plan on care for your entire family once baby arrives.

Choosing Quality Child Care
During this class you will learn how to search for and identify high quality child care services, from infant care to school-age options.
Specific topics covered include North Carolina's licensing regulations and accreditation standards as well as key quality indicators for child care programs.
Webinar attendees will also learn how to access community resources and financial assistance programs available to help pay for child care. This webinar is offered quarterly so that you can begin planning as soon as possible.
Guided Virtual Tour
Join us for a Guided Virtual Tour of the Women's Center Hospital
This virtual tour will get you familiar with the various areas of the Women's Hospital to prepare you for the birth of your baby. Areas covered are registration, labor & delivery and postpartum.
Virtual Tours are on the first Tuesdays and the third Mondays of the month at 6:00 PM and 6:45 PM. Daytime tours at 12:00 PM will be coming soon.
Rest In The Nest Part One- Infant Sleep 0-4 Months
Preparing for the early days of sleep is something parents often forget to do before baby’s arrival. In this class you will learn the basics of setting up a safe sleep environment, what gentle sleep practices are, what to expect from your new baby, and how you can help your baby (and yourself!) in the first 4 months. From swaddling and pacifiers to tummy time and the 4 month sleep regression, class participants will gain a firm foundation of sleep basics. You will also explore different sleep scenarios with our instructor and get her expert insight on how to work through them. You will be able to chat your questions to the instructor and revisit any section you choose in our on-demand format.

This class is currently taught by Irene Gouge from Loving Lessons Sleep Consulting.
This on-demand class will not only cover the basics of CPR, it will also cover water safety, safety around your home, and vehicle safety. Included is a bonus section just for grandparents! The best part? You will be able to chat your questions to the instructor and revisit any section you choose in our on-demand format.

The Grandparent Class
Lots has changed in the past 20-40 years around infant care. This class will get new grandparents up to date without overwhelming them with all of the details. In addition to infant safety, feeding, and milestones, this class will help new grandparents care for their own children as they become parents. Grandparents can watch before the baby arrives and watch again once they are here thanks to our online, on-demand format. A perfect way to help get grandparents involved in the “nesting” process!
