Visitor Guidelines
NICU at UNC Health Rex:
- Parents (including same sex partners) are essential partners with the healthcare team in caregiving and decision making for their infants. They are welcome to be with their infant 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
- Siblings: As we move past cold and flu season, we’re carefully revising our visitation guidelines. Effective April 25, 2025:
- Siblings of NICU patients may visit on Wednesdays and Saturdays, between the hours of Noon (12 p.m.) and 6 p.m.
- Visits are limited to one hour per day and a parent or legal guardian must be present.
- Siblings under the age of 13 will require a temperature check by a staff member. The temperature must be less than 99 degrees (< 99°F) to enter.
- With parent approval, grandparents and other designated support persons may visit the infant without parents present. A government issued photo ID must be presented at each visit.
- Extended family and other visitors ages 13 and older may visit when accompanied by the infant’s parents. Two (2) visitors may be present at a time. Visitation hours are 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. daily.
- To maintain privacy and ensure safe care transitions, only parents may remain in the NICU during shift change (6:30 – 7:30 a.m./p.m.).
- During cold and flu season (Oct. – April) visitation will be limited to parents, grandparents and healthy twin or triplet siblings of the infant.
