Dried Fruit Filled Strudel

Dried Fruit Filled Strudel


  • ¾ cup of dried cranberries
  • 1 cup diced prunes
  • ¾ cup of raisins
  • ½ cup of dried apricots
  • ½ cup of chocolate chips
  • ½ cup of walnut, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

For the Strudel:

  • 1/2 package of phyllo dough, thawed
  • 3/4 stick of unsalted butter, melted or ¾ cup of olive oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a medium size bowl, mix cranberries, prunes, raisins, apricots, chocolate chips, and walnut. 
  3. Add vanilla extract and cinnamon to the mixture and set aside.
  4. Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush with butter.
  5. From long side of the dough fold one side into one third of the sheet.
  6. Repeat the other long side to form one long sheet with three layers. 
  7. Place the second phyllo dough on top of the prepared sheet and brush with butter. 
  8. Again fold the long side of the dough into one third of the sheet.
  9. Repeat the other long side to form a long sheet with three layers.
  10. At the end you should have 6 layers.  
  11. Add two tablespoons of filling to the bottom of the strip.
  12. Roll the dough from the short bottom side up until the end.  Place the log on a greased cookie sheet.  Continue with the rest of the dough and filling.
  13. For the egg wash, mix egg with 1 tablespoon of water.  Brush the logs with egg wash.
  14. Bake for 25 -30 minutes until the logs are light brown.  Let them cool. 
  15. Dust the logs with powdered sugar and serve in room temperature. 

These baked dried fruit logs freeze well.
