Medical LibraryWe want to help you make informed decisions about your health. Our library, containing journals is here to assist and support the educational needs of co-workers, medical staff, volunteers, patients and their family members.

The UNC REX Healthcare Library supports the delivery of quality health care by meeting the scientific, clinical and managerial information needs of the UNC REX Medical Staff and the UNC REX Healthcare staff.

Reference Assistance

The library maintains reference and lending materials on medical, nursing, allied health, and health care administration. The team members are available to assist patrons in the use of the collection and in locating specific information. This service is available for UNC REX Healthcare co-workers, medical staff, UNC REX volunteers, patients and their family members. Please email your questions to UNC REX Healthcare Library.

Literature Searches

Medical, nursing, health care administration and consumer health searches are available from the National Library of Medicine Databases, CINAHL, ClinicalKey, StatRef online reference book collection Databases and the Internet. Search results can be printed out or forwarded to your e-mail address. This service is available for UNC REX Healthcare co-workers and physicians on staff. Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery

Books, journal articles, or audio-visuals needed for patient care or work related projects but not owned by this library may be obtained from other libraries or sources. Loansome Doc is also available. This service allows you to request articles found during your PubMed search. This service is available to UNC REX Healthcare co-workers and physicians on staff. Please print and mail the loansome doc agreement to UNC REX Healthcare Library.

End-User Searching

The library has PC workstations available for users to perform their own searches. Databases available throughout the hospital via the library's website include: Ovid/Medline, Cinahl, Evidence Based Medicine Reviews, ACP Journal Club, Clinical Evidence, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, StatRef Online reference textbooks and UpToDate electronic clinical reference. 300 online full-text journals are also available for authorized users. Please print and mail the online resources access agreement form to UNC REX Healthcare Library.


Circulating material may be checked out for two weeks. Only UNC REX Healthcare co-workers, volunteers and medical staff, may check out materials. A maximum of five items may be checked out at one time. Lost and/or damaged items are to be replaced by the borrower. Current purchase price plus a service charge of $10 will determine replacement charges. Please call the library or send e-mail to UNC REX Healthcare Library to renew library materials.

Paperback Book Exchange

A collection of fiction is available for patients, UNC REX co-workers, and medical staff. There is no check out requirement for this collection. Donations to this collection are welcome.


UNC REX co-workers and physicians on staff may access the library 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A medical librarian is available to assist library users between 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.


The library is located on the first floor of the UNC REX Healthcare, near the cafeteria.
