Pharmacy Residency Program
Welcome to UNC REX Pharmacy and thank you for your interest in our Pharmacy Residency Training Programs. We support you in your desire to pursue additional training through the PGY1 and PGY2 residencies.
UNC REX Hospital is a large community hospital located in Raleigh, North Carolina and is part of the UNC Healthcare System. We have several specialty areas including heart and vascular services, critical care, inpatient and outpatient oncology, ambulatory care clinics and the busiest surgical service department in the state of North Carolina. At UNC REX, we are proud to be a certified stroke center, a Magnet-designated hospital, and we hold a Medicare Five Star rating and Leapfrog A status. Furthermore, we were named the #1 ranked hospital in North Carolina per Business North Carolina in 2019.
The UNC Pharmacy utilizes carousels and automated drug delivery units throughout the hospital. We have a newly renovated, state of the art central pharmacy, heart and vascular satellite, operating room satellite, and multiple outpatient infusion center satellites. The pharmacists have workstations on patient care units and participate in inter-disciplinary rounds. We have over 40 clinical pharmacists including clinical pharmacist practitioners practicing in ambulatory care clinics. The clinical pharmacists at UNC REX specialize in many areas including emergency medicine, cardiology, antimicrobial stewardship, critical care, and pediatrics.
As a UNC REX resident, you’ll be provided a strong residency experience that prepares you to be a skilled clinician and leader in hospital practice. You will have opportunities to teach and practice in a wide variety of clinical and leadership rotations. Our affiliations with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences provide our residents the opportunity to precept through layered learning.
