Billing & Financial Assistance
UNC REX Healthcare will assist you with obtaining the necessary approval for your visit and will file primary and most secondary insurance claims for you.
When you register, if you plan to file a claim for your health care, please provide the following:
- A copy of your insurance card(s) to file your claim.
- A copy of your Medicare or Medicaid insurance cards, if applicable.
- A signed release form authorizing UNC REX to release information to your insurance company to ensure your claims will be paid promptly.
Your estimated out-of-pocket expenses, co-insurance and/or deductible is due at the time of your visit (cash, personal checks and most major credit cards are accepted).
If your insurance requires approval (pre-authorization or pre-certification) for certain tests or admission to the hospital,UNC REX will help you obtain the necessary approval for your visit if you have not already done so.

Customer Services Representatives at UNC REX will answer any question you may have before, during or after your visit. They can also pre-screen you to determine if you are eligible for financial assistance.
If you need help paying your bill at UNC REX Healthcare, you may qualify for financial assistance. Copies of UNC Health’s financial assistance policy documents, which are applicable to UNC REX Healthcare, are available here,

Patient Financial Services Department
Patients should be directed to the main hospital to see a financial counselor. Patient Financial Services no longer has walk-in service available at this location.
- By phone or after-hours: Our Customer Service Office can be reached by phone at 866-704-5286 or 984-974-3425 for questions Monday - Thursday 8 am- 4:30 pm, Friday 8 am- 1 pm.
Online Bill Pay
We offer convenient online billing through our secure patient portal, My UNC Chart. Sign up and pay your hospital and physician bills at your convenience. You can view your statements, account details and manage your account online. You have the option to choose paperless billing.
In order to pay your Rex Hospital bill online you will need to enter your 10 digit account number only (no dash necessary) from your most recent statement. You can find your account number on the top right side of your statement. Please enter the amount you wish to pay and if you have another account to pay, select “ADD NEW ROW” and enter the additional account number and amount. Complete the remaining mandatory fields on the following screens and a receipt is available to print.
At this time, we cannot accept online payments for Physician Practices.
Online Payments Before June 20, 2014
Our online bill payment system allows you to pay for charges incurred before June 20, 2014 using a Visa, Mastercard or Discover card.
