Vascular Interventional Radiology
Rex Vascular Interventional Radiology offers a wide range of services and emcompasses the use of image guidance methods to gain access to the deepest interior of most organs and organ systems. Through an array of techniques, interventional radiologists can treat certain conditions through the skin (percutaneously) that might otherwise require surgery.
Beyond routine diagnostic radiology procedures such as arteriograms, percutaneous cholangiography and venography, we provide various forms of vascular access. These include implantation of ports, dialysis catheters, Hickman catheters and Groshong catheters.
In additional to the above, Rex also performs Vascular Interventional radiology procedures that include:
- Balloon angioplasty
- Vascular stenting (including carotid)
- Radiofrequency ablation
- Balloon kyphoplasty
What is Balloon Kyphoplasty?
Balloon kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive treatment for compression fractures of the spine. The procedure uses orthopedic balloons to gently raise collapsed vertebra in an attempt to return them to the correct position. This procedure is frequently performed on patients who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis.
There are several benefits to balloon kyphoplasty, including:
- Reduction of back pain
- Improvement in mobility
- Improvement in the ability to perform daily activities
- Faster recovery than traditional surgery
